FAQs
- Q: How do I get a server account?
A: Contact the webmaster if you want to get an account on the BCIT web server.
You first will be given a test account on the test server, which you can use
for the development of your site. Once you feel the site is ready, provide
Carol Dion with the URL. Your site will be evaluated by the web site
developer according to the guidelines, and provide you with any feedback.
After any necessary changes have been incorporated, you will be given an
account on the main BCIT web server.
- Q: Who is responsible for the server account?
A: The password and account id are the responsibility of the dean, director,
department head, or manager in your area. If a password needs to be
changed, a written request (email) needs to be forwarded to webmaster. The new password will be forwarded to the
requester. This process is in place for security reasons.
- Q: Can I have a personal page on the BCIT server?
A: Individual accounts on the BCIT web server for personal home pages
will not be provided. However, it's up to the dean, director,
department head, or manager in your area whether they will allow
personal home pages under the department directory on the server.
The dean, director, department head, or manager, will either give you
access to the id or password to the web account, or have a
designated web person in your area "post" your pages on the server.
Please note: Personal pages cannot promote a personal business, pornographic
material, or anything that would be considered a conflict of interest
with BCIT's mandate and mission.

Q: What information is published on the corporate site?
A: The BCIT corporate web site publishes all program information that
is normally printed in the Full-time and Part-time calendar, and
Part-time Studies Flyer. This includes all program outlines,
prerequisites, course fees, program matrixes, and course descriptions.
Changes to program curriculum must be approved by the Registrar's
office. Once course information is approved, the web site is updated.
- Q: What can I publish?
A: If the purpose of your site is to attract students, you can provide
further information about the individual program information that is
not published on the corporate site. Some ideas can be student
testimonials, industry trends, industry projects, and salary
expectations. You can also give students the opportunity to download
course outlines or sample assignments, check out course schedules,
and browse student projects. Closer to graduation or the summer
months you may want to publish resumes for the students for possible
job placement. You can also provide valuable information for industry
and an opportunity for industry to respond to the program curriculum
or invite comments toward new trends that are surfacing.
You cannot publish any program information from the calendar,
instead you need to link to the appropriate program information on
the corporate site. Be sure to let Carol Dion know which pages link
to the corporate site, so we can arrange for a link back to your
department page.
